Americans are, on average, only 69 percent happy.

The world population is, on average, less than 65 percent happy.

37 percent of the people on Forbes list of Wealthiest Americans are less happy than the average American.

At any given time, one forth of Americans are mildly depressed

14 percent of the nations on Earth are less than 50 percent happy.

Happiness Increase Experiments published in peer review journal have empirically demonstrated that individuals can be trained to be 25 percent happier through various training programs in from two to ten weeks.

All demographic variables combined, including age, sex, income, race, and education, are responsible for only 15 percent of the difference in happiness levels between individuals.

American Children feel happy 52 percent of the time, neutral 29 percent of the time, and unhappy 19 percent of the time.

Americans' personal income has increased more than 2 1/2 times over the last 50 years, but their happiness level has remained the same.

 HAPPINESS INCREASE INTERNATIONAL

Happiness Increase International represents an attempt to spread happiness-increase applications throughout all sectors of society by the creation of a not-for profit organization designed solely for that purpose.

In its present form, it is a proposal.  To make Happiness Increase International and its divisions a reality will take the collective effort of many individuals from both the professional field of happiness research and the general public.  We will need individuals to lead the divisions, and to implement the specific happiness increase initiatives that are developed.

Below, you will see a subscription button to a yahoo listserv (click here for a description of how a listserv works) that I created for Happiness Increase International and its nine proposed divisions.  As individuals join this list,  we can begin  building the divisions and their initiatives.   I would act as temporary Executive Director of Happiness Increase International, and would appreciate the assistance of three or four Associate Directors.   Also, each of the nine divisions will require an Executive Director;  leaders who will hopefully emerge as a result of our listserv communications.

Following is an outline of what Happiness Increase International can be and do.  Together we can build a potent vehicle for helping our world become much happier.

Mission statement:

Happiness Increase International is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping make our world happier. Through our nine divisions, we work to develop and promote happiness-increase programs. We educate the general public, businesses, governments, schools, and hospitals throughout the world regarding the fundamental importance of happiness and the benefits that accrue to individuals and to their society, as individuals become happier. We are especially dedicated to developing and promoting means by which people throughout our world can quickly, easily, and inexpensively learn to become substantially happier.

Our premise that people can become substantially happier through direct training is founded on a body of published peer-review journal studies demonstrating that personal happiness can be increased dramatically in a matter of weeks.   Our research base is the over 3,000 studies on happiness (subjective well-being) published by social scientists over the last four decades.

Aristotle considered happiness “the highest good… at once the best, noblest, and most pleasant thing…, of all things the one most desirable…, and the end of our actions”  We at Happiness Increase International understand that happiness is, always has been, and always will be, the point of it all.  Come work with us to raise global happiness from its current level of less than 75 percent to at least 85 percent by 2010.
